En Masse (Warm Ups Vol. 1.33)

Since I'm so far behind in posting daily sketches I decided I'd post more sketches than I usually do in a single update. I'm Including everything that I happen to have scanned at the moment. I've been pretty slacktastic in updating the blog the last couple of months. But on the bright side, I think the total skipped days of sketching.. is still under a dozen? maybe.

Keep the pencil on the paper!

New Books (Warm Ups Vol. 1.32)

I recently purchased a new sketchbook. I filled up my other one. I decided to stick with the cheap stuff (same paper weight and page count) but it's a different brand this go around. Speaking of purchasing books, I am feeling the need to expand my drawing book library. I'm kind of tired of my current collection. I want some new fresh material. Time to visit the amazon.

Draw like you mean it!

Insufficient Postage (Warm Ups Vol. 1.31)

I did some traveling a week ago. It was lots of good times. Time to own up though. I took my sketchpad and pencil with me but a few days it just didn't happen. I knew it was going to be difficult to hit my daily goal while on the road- and it was. In the words of the great philosopher Some-philosophy-guy, "Oh well."

This feels like a good checkpoint since I finally suffered my first lapse of drawing after close to 5 months. In general I feel like my skill has been improving. It also feels like I am improving at the speed of a glacier.. but that's still improvement! So that's good. Checkpoint complete!

Keep the pencil on the paper!

Plunge (Warm Ups Vol. 1.29)

Just caught up with a mate that I haven't spoken too for several months. He quit his day job to do his own thing. He's a brave soul. Someday I'll quit my day job. Even if it's just to retire.

Tax Day (Warm Ups Vol. 1.27)

I want to wish everyone (at least every law abiding U.S. Citizen) a happy tax day... but, it's tax day. There's no happy in Tax. I probably wouldn't feel so bad about paying taxes if there wasn't so much waste involved with our so called government. See! See what tax day has done to me? Now I'm waxing political! And Chipotle doesn't even give out free burritos on tax day anymore! Here... I'll defer ranting with some arts.

Keep the pencil on the paper!

03.26 Day 80 - Anatomy study from Dynamic Figure Drawing or Dynamic Anatomy (I don't remember)

03.27 Day 81 - Sans ref, or reason.. really

BlendTuts! (Warm Ups Vol. 1.26)

I've been addicted to Blendtuts as of late. Between that, the MakingComics MOOC, taxes, sketching, assisting with a web site, and the typical family stuff.... the blog posting has been suffering. Bad blogger, bad! But on the bright side, I haven't skipped a day of drawing yet. Although I do admit to cutting my sketching time shorter on a couple occasions. Well something has to give! Anyway, I'll try to get caught up to posting in short order (no promises though).

Draw like you mean it!

03.23 Day 77 - Anatomy study from Drawing Dynamic Hands (I think)

03.24 Day 78 - Sans ref, or very much effort

Next! (Warm Ups Vol. 1.25)

Week 2 of the McMooc has started. More homework for me. If you need a distraction from homework, or anything really, then go watch Space Janitors. I find this show quite humorous and they are in the process of making season 3. Sweet.

Pitch It (Warm Ups Vol. 1.24)

I've been fairly busy the past couple of weeks. Ya, it happens. One of many things on my over sized plate is the MakingComings.com MOOC launched. In the first week of the course I've done some reading, attended a course hangout to listen to a panel of industry experts, met virtually with 2 of the people in my assigned group (one from Serbia, one from Iraq... very cool) and produced my comic book idea pitch (one of the assignments for week 1).

Here's my pitch... and some daily sketches (day 72 was a warm up / concept sketch for my story idea)

Young Aamav defies the antiquated laws of the land unleashing the wrath of a mighty sea kraken upon his island home

Blarney! (Warm Ups Vol. 1.22)

Lego's are cool. Castles are cool. Lego castles are ubercool. Check out this guy's website: Bob Carney. Each castle link has a little bit of history to go with it and the build's are awesome. I assume he tears them down after he's done so he can build the next one. That.. to me, is heart breaking. All in the name of progress! Tear it down to build it anew. Happy St. Paddy's Day!

T-Minus Nine (Warm Ups Vol. 1.21)

Only Nine days remain until the McMooc launches. I better read the required pre-read material. What Is a Graphic Novel by Jessica Abel and Taste Vs. Ability by Ira Glass and Mark Leutke. Well, I've already read the second article, but I'll re-read the pre-read. That's right. Over achiever here.

Keep the pencil on the paper!

03.08 Day 62 - Anatomy study from Dynamic Anatomy

03.09 Day 63 - Sans ref, sans flesh

Buzz Kill! (Warm Ups Vol 1.19)

I decided to deviate from my usual format and post four warm ups this go. Why? Just cause. Also, in the comments on my previous post, Mark from Random Diversions challenged me to draw the sword of bees. Hmm.. a plain two-handed sword. Plain is my speciality! Trying to learn something in the process I decided to use a reference. Credit to Space Mullet by the extremely talented Daniel Warren Johnson. Click the Space Mullet  link and start reading. See if you can find the image I used as reference (it shouldn't be hard). I'm up to chapter 2 and it's been a really good read so far. Really good! Also, you can learn more about the man behind the comic on this makingcomics.com podcast. Seems like a pretty cool dude.

Keep the pencil on the paper!
